Some Background .....
I am a New Jersey artist living in Plainfield. For the past 20 years I have been employed in medical science. In one way or another, I have always been drawn to science. The scientific illustrations in texts, specimens, and technology have always fascinated me factually and visually. Even if I don’t understand a particular piece of science, I might be drawn to the schematic, graphic or mathematical explanation. The attempt of science to explain everything with its hieroglyphic language is beautiful in it’s mystery and depth. Taken out of context, this imagery seems cryptic, like it is trying to tell us something important that is just beyond our understanding. The encaustic medium complements this idea as the process is not well known and remains somewhat mysterious. The medium can produce veiled imagery, translucence and sculptural effects.
